March 31st 2004 Girls, so sorry I've been out of touch, but here is the update: Party pics to right were taken at a fabulous dinner party thrown for me by my very best friend in Milan, Jasmine Sforni (see March 14, 2003) who managed to whip up a magnificent meal and invite all of her fantastic friends. Jasmine is an amazing painter and decorator, and you will have to look out for photos of her gorgeous Milan house in an upcoming issue of Elle Decor! From Milan I headed back to Florence where another fantastic friend, Victoria Hennessey, threw another dinner party at her house, where she also cooked a fabulous meal. All of this home entertaining in Italy has inspired me to start throwing dinner parties of my own. In NYC no one entertains at home because everyone's tiny apartments are too crammed with clothes and, ahem, shoes to fit a table and friends! As soon as I get back to NYC I have resolved to clear enough of a path in my apartment to start a trend home entertaining. Am now in London, staying at the luxurious Claridge's Hotel and will have much more to tell once this trip is done, so you'll have to stay tuned. And last, I've re-posted the photo of everyone's favorite, HOLLYWOULD Bachelor, BACHELOR #1, who has decided that being the toast of the town isn't the worst thing in the world. You can see his stats and email info on the Jan 26, 2004 diary entry. For more info on how the bachelor thing started, see Jan 19, 2004. March 27th 2004 Girls, am soooooo sorry I left town without even giving you a way to contact hotty fox Bachelor #8! Please email him today! Bachelor #8: jamin_1976@hotmail.com Have just returned from Milan and Lake Como and have much to tell, but I wanted first to post this fantabulous letter from a new HOLLYWOULD girl who works at Jive Records. Maybe I'm biased, but I think HOLLYWOULD girls rock: Dear Holly, I must admit, when I first saw the price tag on your shoes I was a little turned off. Then I tried on the Black Discos and fell in love!!! I bought them took them home, loved them but was still a little mad at myself for spending that money on shoes from a company I wasn’t too familiar with. Then it happened…I wore the Black Discos for over 12 hours this past weekend at the Soul Train Awards and I could’ve worn them for an additional 12 hours. Not only are they super hot, I got stopped constantly, but they were REALLY COMFORTABLE. In my business, when you have to be on your feet and look good a lot of the time, your shoes totally proved themselves. I will recommend them to all my female co-workers and artists!!! Thank you for making comfy shoes that look so damn good!!! March 18th 2004 My mom thinks my diary is getting boring. She said that you girls want to hear more about life in Italy and nights out on the town, and that I am not delivering. Mom, it’s just that I’ve been super busy designing Spring 2005 and my “nights out on the town” have been limited to trips to the local coffee shop. But, do not despair. This weekend I am heading to Milan and Lake Como and plan to reclaim my “Party Girl” title with a vengeance, so stay tuned. In the meantime, get a load of Bachelor # 8: BACHELOR #8
HOLLY’S NOTES:
March 15th 2004 Girls, your new HOLLYWOULD Bachelor will post on Wednesday instead of today. I am having technical difficulties, but he is worth the wait. He’s so hot, in fact, that he gets TWO photos. In the meantime, please note that unless you girls get on it, he will be our LAST BACHELOR EVER. It’s true. I don’t have any more applicants, so you girls must spread the word! See Jan 19, 2004 for more details.. The latest news from the USA is that Jessica Simpson has been wearing HOLLYWOULD! Apparently she is wearing our Pink “Marley” shoes on the Newlyweds episode where she dresses up for her foxy husband Nick Lachey’s birthday. I have not yet seen the episode as I have been trapped in Italy, going through Newlyweds withdrawals for weeks, but I have heard she looks gorgeous as usual. If you read this diary you know how much I absolutely adore Jessica and Nick (see Oct 8, 2003), so it’s a thrill to have HOLLYWOULD in the Simpson-Lachey closet! Other strangely funny news from NYC is that there seems to be a rumor going around town that HOLLYWOULD shoes are designed by Lil’ Kim. How this word got on the street, we do not know, but misinformed people have been dropping by the shop lately asking if it’s true. Who is spreading these fabulous rumors?! If only Lil’ Kim would lend her design sensibilities for a season, I know we would end up with a collection full of nothing but fantastic thigh-high purple sequined platform boots with leopard fur trim. Just to set the record straight, I still do design each & every ounce of HOLLYWOULD, from the tip of the toes to the point of the heels. Now if only I would get credit for some of the best lyrics ever written: “Keep your stone sets, I got my own baguettes The woman is pure genius. March 8th 2004 Lately I’ve been noticing some of the fundamental differences between males and females. For example, near my factory in Tuscany there is a video arcade. During the Italian two hour lunch break, the arcade is packed with males ranging from 10 to 65 years old. All of these men spend their lunch hours in solitude, staring into the latest “X Box” screen while maneuvering joy sticks, fake steering wheels, and plastic guns. Out of the dozens of patrons that flock to this arcade, there is not a woman in sight. Do you know why? Because women know that video games are total and complete waste of time. Why on earth would you spend your two hour lunch in a dark arcade alone when you could spend the entire two hours shopping in the company of friends, contemplating nail polish and your long lost natural hair color? When women come back from their lunch break, they are thinking thoughts like, “Janet is right. I am totally more of a Spring than an Autumn.” While men are thinking, “Man, I totally kick butt. Those Fourth Dimension Warlocks & Sorcerer Ninja Trolls didn’t even know what hit them.” Deep thoughts. What made me start noticing these fundamental differences in the first place was the very similar tastes of all of our HOLLYWOULD Bachelors. For example, the Bachelor below likes Frisbee. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Frisbee, yet you will never find a girl who lists “Frisbee” as a favorite sport. Or as a sport at all. Likewise, you would be hard pressed to find a boy who would list “Fast Walking” as a sport, when all girls know that Fast Walking deserves to have its own Olympic category. Anywho... I am proud to present Bachelor #7: BACHELOR #7
HOLLY’S NOTES:
March 4th 2004 The latest word from HOLLYWOULD NYC is that the beautiful & talented Sopranos star Jaime Lynn Discala dropped by the shop this week, and ended up wearing HOLLYWOULD to the Sopranos premiere Weds night. The girls in the office said that she was super nice, super fun, and super duper gorgeous, and that her sweet disposition made their day! The shoes she chose for the event were our 'Erin' high heels and our matching 'Sera' bag (both celebrity faves), and she also picked up some of our summery Clogs to wear around town. It's fabulous to be loved by our favorite Soprano! Speaking of our favorite celebs, the latest word from HOLLYWOULD Palm Beach is that Mena Suvari sent us a sweet 'Congratulations on the new Palm Beach shop!' email while ordering her shoes. Isn't she the best?! Mena is as talented, smart, and classy as she is beautiful, and that makes her amazingly talented, smart, and classy! We love you Mena! And finally, the word from Florence is that yes, I did have a non-stop party weekend in Paris and have not yet fully recovered. I would probably be in better shape if upon landing here in Florence, I had not gone straight from the airport to yet another late night cocktail party, complete with an Italian rockabilly surf band (don't ask) and way too much booze, but that's a whole 'nother story. This weekend's plans for recovery are much more subdued, but I will keep you posted. xoxo March 2nd 2004 So sorry I’ve been away for so long! Went to Paris for some Pre-Fashion Week soirees, which I will fill you in on once my head clears, but for now let’s get down to biznezz… in the form of Bachelor #6. Girls, this is one HOLLYWOULD Bachelor I almost had to keep for myself. If it weren’t for the fact that I am still in Europe (making shoes for you!), he wouldn’t have seen the light of this HOLLYWOULD Diary and would have received fan mail from one, and only one bachelorette…moi. However, since I am generous and love all of you so much, I have decided to share him with the world. Oh, you ladies are lucky… BACHELOR #6
