Sea Island via Florence

No sooner had I returned from my glamorous Palm Beach vacation than I was off to Sea Island, Georgia for another sensational jaunt.  I love that sentence - so Danielle Steel.

Speaking of glamour, my boyfriend thinks that when I wrote about our trip to Florida I made it sound more glam than it was by leaving out details like our Economy Class travel, not-so-glam rental car, and the fact that I spent the vacation sharing a twin bedroom with my little sis.  Yes it’s true, I didn’t fly down in a private jet, get picked up by a driver, or spend my evenings in a gold gilded canopy bed, but I still think there is something glamorous about riding rusty bikes in jeweled flip-flops and finding your purse full of sand in NYC on a Monday morning.  Sand is the new Black AmEx, you know.

Anywho, my reason for traveling to Sea Island was to attend my boyfriend’s family reunion, which was loads of fun.  I know, I know, I’ve never mentioned “the boyfriend” here on the diary, but that’s because he specifically asked not to be mentioned for reasons that are beyond my logic.  Apparently, unlike my little sister Molly (see April 21st), my boyfriend does not like being “googleable”, or at least that’s what he says.  According to him, it’s bad form for a dude to have google entries that reference skiing in Cortina, cocktailing in Palm Beach, nightclubbing in Miami, or jet-setting down to Georgia for the weekend. The only google-worthy mentions for guys, evidently, are things that have to with professional or athletic accomplishments, which would be published beyond their control.  Boys are so strange.

This one is so anti-google, in fact, that whenever we are photographed together by the local NYC social paparazzi, he gives them the name of his next door neighbor, Justin Doyle, for the photo credits instead of his own.  Justin Doyle, it may be news to you, but you have been to more parties than you know, more charity events than you can count, made more friends in a tuxedo than James Bond, and rumor has it… you and I are dating.

So, because I can’t tell you the boyfriend’s name - lest he be googleable as a ‘Boyfriend’ instead of a Business Tycoon/Olympic Gold Medalist - I will refer to him as “Superfox” from here on out.  Stay tuned…

April 21st 2006
NYC

I have just returned from Miami, Palm Beach, and a little spot called John’s Island and I could definitely have used a few more days of vacation.  Some people don’t like Florida, but I personally think that from October–April there really isn’t any place better.

In Miami we headed for a night on the town at The Shore Club’s Skybar, which was a bit like being on the set of MTV’s The Grind.  Who knew they made shorts that short, platforms that high, hair that platinum, lips that inflated, and body parts that could be used as serving trays?  When it comes to artificial enhancements, Miami puts Los Angeles to shame.

From Miami we cruised up to Palm Beach where we parked ourselves poolside at The Breakers and sipped Mai Tais all afternoon.  The Breakers in April attracts quite a crowd of jet-setters, and most of the guests had clearly come to Palm Beach for a respite between their recent ski trip to Gstaad and upcoming yacht trip to Saint Tropez.  Oh the jet-set life is hard, très hard.

After jet-setting in Palm Beach we headed up to John’s Island, which is an oh-so-preppy, oh-so-private little club near Vero Beach.  John’s Island is one of those secret little places that likes it that way, where everyone thinks Palm Beach is “too showy”, and Miami is, well, not even worth mentioning.  I’ve grown up going to John’s Island and have gotten used to this snobbery, but deep down inside there’s nothing I love more than a little Miami & Palm Beach glitz.  What’s wrong with a gold plated Rolls Royce with Dior logo interiors?  Absolutely nothing, I’d say.

At this point in our story I have to mention that my little sister, Molly Dunlap, was with me in John’s Island.  Yes, her name is “Molly”, and I am “Holly” – don’t ask.  Anywho, I’ve just learned that Molly is quite upset that she has not yet been mentioned on this diary and is hence “ungoogleable”, so I would like to dedicate this paragraph to my gorgeous, beautiful, genius, hilarious, knock-out little sister Molly Dunlap.  Hi Molly Dunlap.  Molly Dunlap = HOT.  Molly Dunlap rules Google.  Molly Dunlap is Googliscious.

After 3 days in the sun our journey ended, and I am back in NYC where the weather is finally turning to full-fledged Spring.  As a result, last night I headed out on the town with my fashion plate pal Kate Schelter to the opening of the new Alessandro Della Acqua store on Madison Avenue, where everyone who’s anyone (including Fabiola Beracasa, Jacquetta Wheeler, Lauren Davis, Tinsley Mortimer, and Genevieve Jones) sipped cocktails surrounded by Alessandro’s fabulous wares.  If I had to cheat on HOLLYWOULD with another designer’s duds, it might just be A Della A.

It’s finally Spring and this means lots more parties and lots more fun, so stay tuned…

New York City

So much to tell!  Since we last chatted I’ve been to the New Yorkers for Children Gala, which is a great event for a great cause, and is always packed with everyone’s favorite New York City socials.  There’s much, much more gossip, but I’m sure you’ve already be able to catch up on the event in the New York Post, and will definitely see some nice party pics in upcoming issues of Vogue, W, etc.

The following night I attended a “Girls Only” dinner with my two former roommates Leslie Smith and Ashley Bartolotta.  It had been a long time since we had chizzilled together, so we decided to catch up over margaritas & Mexican food.  The “Girls Only” policy, however, was tossed out the window when our favorite painter/DJ Noah Sparks showed up, but we decided to make an exception to the rule.  From dinner we headed to a birthday party at East Village bar Black & White, where I proceeded to do tequila shots with strangers and ended up in a very bad state the next day.  Never again.

On Monday night I headed to Tiffany for the launch party for their amazing new Frank Gehry jewelry collection, which was a star-studded event.  Upon entering I brushed past Billy Crystal, and it was rumored that Ashton Kutcher was also in attendance (sans Demi!), but unfortunately I never saw him.  My big UsWeekly moment at the party was getting to meet the music-master and ex-Nicole-Ritchie-fiance, DJ AM, which for some reason made my week.  Clearly I’ve been reading too much gossip.

From Tiffany we headed over to the ultimate spot for cocktails & romance, the legendary “21”, which is definitely NYC’s most glamorous speakeasy.  If you’ve never been to 21, I suggest you find a handsome escort and check it out ASAP.

This weekend I head to Miami & Palm Beach for fun in the sun, and I promise to give you all the scoop upon my return!

New York City

Oh Girls, I’m sorry it has been so long since I last wrote!  As you can see from photos (right), we’ve been very busy dressing our favorite celebs in HOLLYWOULD, and don’t they all look divine?!  It would be difficult to make any of these gorgeous girls look bad, but we think they look even more magnificent than ever in their HOLLYWOULD frocks.  We love you Sharon Stone, Vanessa Manillo, and Garcelle Beauvais!

Speaking of film stars, last night I hosted a screening of the new movie Kinky Boots, which was fantabulous.  I won’t spoil too much by telling you that the film is based on a true story of a traditional men’s shoe factory in England that finds itself in financial troubles and resorts to making thigh-high boots for drag queens to save the business.  I highly recommend it for anyone who loves shoes, disco-dancing, a bit of drag, and fun British humor.  The movie comes out April 14th, so be sure not to miss it!

Movie screenings in New York are always a great time, especially when they’re organized by Movie Premiere Guru Peggy Siegal, and attended by an extra fun crowd.  Last night’s screening was no different, and we all gathered at the MGM screening room for the film and then The Hotel Plaza Athenee for dinner.  Of course, with a name like “Kinky Boots” I was hoping to wear a pair myself, but having just landed from Italy the night before, I wasn’t able to get my boot look together in time and had to rely on fashion whiz Kate Schelter to represent in HOLLYWOULD’s kinkiest boots ever.  Big shout-outs to everyone who came out for the affair, including Kate, Joely Fischer, Annie Churchill, Katrina Pavlos, Somers Farkas, Hudson Morgan, Jeff Branson, Alexandra Wolfe, Hanuk Kim, Delphine Rubin, Jeremy Kost, and everyone else I’m forgetting.

Due to my jet-lag and a slight touch of exhaustion, I had made up my mind that this would be an early evening.  Nevertheless, due to a few too many cocktails at The Plaza Athenee with my very charming dinner date, I suddenly had a change of heart.  Despite the fact that we were dressed for an uptown affair, we decided to head downtown to Soho for a party at the Etnies showroom.  For those of you aren’t familiar with Etnies (Hi Mom), they are a skateboard shoe company so the place was packed with hoodlums & hustlers of every variety.  In true skateboard style, the party got busted by the police shortly after we arrived, so we headed to Bungalow 8 which, as usual, I don’t really remember.

Tonight, despite lingering traces of a hangover, I am off to the Fool’s Fete Ball for New Yorkers for Children, so stay tuned…
