I'm still recovering from Capri, but here are more photos from our Bergdorf Blondes party in Miami...

May 24th 2005
Capri, Italy

There’s no place like The Isle of Capri.  This past weekend I decided it was time to get a little bit of Mediterranean inspiration for my next collection and headed down to Capri with Brieane, my partner in crime here in Italy.  We had planned a very serene weekend with no drinking, dancing, or nightclubs in mind as we knew that at this time of year Capri would be full of nothing but families and honeymooners, and none of the usual summertime party crowd.  What we didn’t know, however, was that our weekend of choice also happened to be the Rolex Cup sailing championship, which meant an island full of handsome sailors with nothing to do but drink, dance, and nightclub.  As you can imagine, Brieane and I were heartbroken.

Never ones to cry over spilt milk; we managed to make the best of it by accepting an invitation to dinner with the Nerone sailing team that night, and learned all the rules and regulations of the Mediterranean Regatta circuit over drinks & dinner at the lovely restaurant at La Palma.  After a long day and dinner I begged to go home, but Brieane and the boys managed to coerce me into heading out for more trouble, to the fabulous Capri nightclub Anema & Core.  If you ever go to Capri you must go to Anema & Core, which is not exactly a nightclub but more of a sing-a-long karaoke bar where the entire island converges.  Whether you like “That’s Amore” or “I Will Survive”, the band at Anema & Core has got you covered, and everyone sings along to the music in their best English (or in my case, best Italian) while drinking the night away.  There really is nothing better.

The next day we woke up around English teatime and took a quick dip before heading out to do a bit of shopping.  Luckily, all of the shops in Capri are open until 9:30pm, so even if you don’t wake up until cocktail hour you’ve still got a bit of time to shop.  The best thing about shopping in Capri is that there’s nothing they can’t make you right on the spot.  As you walk down the streets there are custom shoe makers, hat makers, and bag makers who are willing to sew what you want, by design, for the very next day.  I couldn’t resist getting a Caprese style bikini custom-made in a purple & fuchsia heart print silk, which will be impossible to wear in the water, but who really cares?

So, if you get to Capri this summer, you must do the following:

  • Buy a custom-made bikini, Carthusia perfume, and a 100% Capri white linen shirt
  • Eat at La Palma & Da Gemma
  • Sleep at Hotel Quisisana or La Luna
  • Drink cocktails in the Piazzetta
  • Sing at Anema & Core
  • Bring a HOLLYWOULD coral print dress!

For those of you who have not yet read Page Six today (pagesix.com), it’s true, our very own Faux-Beyonce (see diary entry below) has made the paper!  Yesterday as soon as I posted my diary entry about our run-in with the fake “Beyonce”, we received a frantic call from another friend of ours who works for a very chic fashion company, and had just sent “Beyonce” numerous luxury items as a gift!  Oh no!  It seems the Faux-Beyonce has been busy making calls to all the best places, and has managed to round up quite a stash of expensive goods.  Quelle disastre.  Where are the Fashion Police when you really need them?

May 18th 2005
Florence, Italy

Ciao from Italia!  I have just received a copy of my new Elle magazine, which features the fabulous photo to the right, taken by our favorite French stylist-cum-photographer Carlyne Cerf de Zunderzee, who defines what it means to be “très, très chic”.  The dress in the photo is our Aqua Rope Print Oceana Dress, which is one of my very favorites from our Spring collection, and is currently available at Saks Fifth Ave

Speaking of Saks Fifth Ave, our new Pre-Fall ballet shoes & wedges, which have not even hit stores yet (and won’t for weeks) can currently be viewed on Saks’ website www.saks.com.  We’re sure these will fly out the door before they even hit the floor, so you may want to place your order with them today!  All of the flowers and/or bows pictured on the shoes are removable clips, which makes them super-versatile in every way.

In other news, HOLLYWOULD will be on the CBS “Early Show” some time this week (sorry, don’t know day), and will also be featured on “Trend Watch” all month long.  HOLLYWOULD shoes will also be worn by some very chic starlets in a few new fabulous movies to be released this summer, and I will keep you posted on details as the premieres approach!

By the way, your appeals have been heard and the HOLLYWOULD store in Nolita is now open on Sundays from noon-5pm.  I fought this for three years, being a firm believer that everyone needs a break from fashion one day a week, but alas HOLLYWOULD girls need to be chic all seven days, so Sunday it is.

And now for some real dirt… the latest scandal chez HOLLYWOULD involves everyone’s favorite glamour girl Beyonce.  Last week “Beyonce” called our store (in person!) and said she would just love a pair of HOLLYWOULD shoes she had seen on her friend Halle Berry.  Of course, being a gigantic fan of Beyonce, I was very excited.  Well, it turns out that the reason “Beyonce” is in “quotes” is because it wasn’t exactly Beyonce.  It was actually someone we now like to call the “Faux-Beyonce” posing to be the real Beyonce to get a discount.  When the Faux-Beyonce informed us she was calling from Houston we all knew she was a fake because any fan knows the real Beyonce is currently in Dubai, and scheduled to play in Milan next week.  Hard to be in Houston when you’re in Dubai, Faux-Beyonce.  We love you BeyonceFaux-Beyonce, not so much.

First, I would like to mention that all of the very best party photos posted to the right (see May 9), were taken by world renowned photographer Hanuk, while all of the blurry, fuzzy, lame ones were taken by me.  I tried putting Hanuk’s name next to his photos, but for some reason my computer isn’t allowing me to do it.  For those of you who don’t know, Hanuk not only happens to be my adopted sister (of sorts), but is also a GENIUS photographer, fashion designer, and painter.  To get a glimpse into his brilliant world, visit his website at www.hanuk.com.

After far too much jet-setting I arrived in Italy yesterday and woke up this morning feeling like I had been hit by a truck.  As glamorous as all of this travel sounds, it would be far more glamorous if I could cut out the actual “travel” and beam myself to all of these fabulous places instead of flying on over air-conditioned, germ infested airplanes.  I never really liked Star Trek or their horrible uniforms & haircuts, but the whole “beaming” people from place to place is a genius idea.  I know there are more than a few extremely brainy HOLLYWOULD girls out there, so I would greatly appreciate it if one of you could get to work on this invention ASAP.

My week began with the New York Pops on Monday night, and then a 7am flight Tuesday morning to Palm Beach.  I love Palm Beach, and wish I could just set up a bed in our little jewel of a store there and stay forever.  But alas, after a few hours in PB and a delicious lunch at Renato’s, I headed down to Miami to prepare for our big soiree that night with Plum Sykes at Intermix.

Miami is another world.  I have to admit that I had not been to Miami in years, and the city has become quite the chic locale in the post-Miami Vice era.  It’s not that I didn’t love Miami Vice, or that I didn’t spend every single Friday night of my 13 year old life glued to the TV wishing I could be Mrs. Sonny Crockett or Mrs. Rico Tubbs (yes, those are their first names), but Miami does seem to be a better place now that all of the glass cubes and pink flamingos have been removed.

Our party at Intermix was a big success, and Plum looked gorgeous in our long beige rope print “Mare” dress, which is on our website in black, and in our store in beige.  For those of you who have been living in a cave, Plum Sykes is the beautiful Vogue editor/author who wrote every fashion girl’s favorite book, Bergdorf Blondes.  Our party at Intermix (a hot Miami store that sells HOLLYWOULD) was to celebrate the book’s launch in paper back, so if you didn’t read it the first time around you will have a chance to now.

The party was a big success and all of us New Yorkers were astounded by how insanely pretty the girls in Miami are.  We think it must be a combination of the water, the lifestyle, and a bit of Latin blood, but every girl in Miami could easily be America’s Next Top Model.  We all want to move there and see if we wake up one morning looking 20% prettier than the rest of the world, which is what seems to have happened to everyone in town.

After a fabulous party I was graciously invited to dinner by one of our co-hosts, Ilona Oppenheim, who is a genius graphic designer and is married to genius architect Chad Oppenheim.  Their Miami house is a modern design masterpiece, and we ate a delicious dinner outside in their lush waterfront backyard under the stars.  You can’t do that in New York City.

The following morning (we’re only at Weds), I awoke for another 7am flight back to NYC to arrive just in time for the Swarovski hosted CFDA luncheon at hip restaurant “Per Se”.  Despite the fact that I was completely knackered and beginning to feel the onset of the cold/flu combo I have now, the lunch was incredible.  Of course, the food at Per Se is world-class amazing, but the best part of the lunch were the people in attendance, including menswear fashion star Thom Browne, Elle’s fashion star Anne Slowey, New York Times’ fashion star Alix Browne, Nadja Swarovski, Vera Wang, the boys from Proenza Schouler, Diane Von Furstenberg, Behnaz Sarafpour, etc, etc, etc.  I felt like a bit of a party-crasher amongst all of fashion’s a-listers, and was thrilled to even get to be invited.

Later that afternoon I headed back to the airport yet again (still Weds) and took the over-night flight to Italy where I am now, cracking the whip to make sure you girls get your HOLLYWOULD in time for all the summertime soirees.  Until then, I’m off to bed with the help of some very strong over-the-counter Italian pharmaceuticals, and hope to be cured by tomorrow.  Ciao ciao.

New York City

Hello London!  It’s only noon and we’ve already been inundated with emails and phone calls from all of our favorite customers in London who read about HOLLYWOULD in the newest copy of The Daily Mail’s YOU Magazine.  We love you YOU, and we love you London!

If you don’t live in London but happen to live La Vida Loca in Miami, please stop by our multi-hosted HOLLYWOULD / Miramax / Ocean Drive / Plum Sykes / Intermix / Emilia Fanjul party tomorrow night as mentioned in the diary entry below.  With this many hosts you’re bound to know someone at the party.

Lastly, I am finally posting the photos from our big CFDA fiesta last week.  Lucky for all of you, I’ve edited out most of the incriminating shots from the afterparty at Marquee & Bungalow 8.  Not all, but most…

May 9th 2005
New York City

I’m feeling kind of dreamy.  It’s 11pm and despite my 7am flight tomorrow morning, I just had to write to tell you about my evening.  Tonight I was invited by Ivanka Trump to see the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, which is an experience I highly recommend for every New Yorker or visitor to the city.  Some of you may be surprised to find out that although I do love hip-hop and rock’n’roll, my first loves were not actually Run DMC or Blondie.  As strange as it may seem, my earliest loves were Irving Berlin and George & Ira Gershwin, and tonight I got a taste of both.

I know, I know, it’s hard to believe that despite my hard core exterior (that’s a joke), there lies a girl who has always known all the words to “Cheek to Cheek” and “S’Wonderful”, but it’s true.  Believe it or not, growing up my family used to eat dinner while watching Lawrence Welk reruns, which would often inspire my mom & dad to get up and start dancing (cheek to cheek) in the kitchen.  As you can imagine, I never, ever wanted any of my “cool kid” friends to come over and witness this weird family ritual, where my parents completely ignored that it was 1984 and instead insanely pretended it was 1944 via 1964 Lawrence Welk reruns.  As a result, all of us kids know every word to Show Boat, which has made it extremely difficult to pretend we’re anything but a bunch of show tunes freaks.

So, if for any reason any of you ever, for even one second, thought “Holly’s so cool”, now you know the truth.  And, even if you're not at dorky as me, next time you're in the city check out the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall.  I promise s'wonderful.

May 6th 2005
New York City

I think I need to quit my job.  Between my social schedule, my work schedule, and my sleep schedule something’s got to give, and lately it’s been the sleep, which is affecting all of the above.

Last night, for example, I attended the Whitney Museum’s annual Art Party, which was a super fashion star studded event.  Party attendees included the lovely Margherita Missoni, Meredith & John Burke, Zac Posen, Claire Danes, Julia Stiles, Lou Doillon, Roopal Patel, Celerie Kemble, etc, etc, etc.  The party was scheduled to end at 1am, with an afterparty at Marquee until the break of dawn.  Unfortunately because I was so knackered from my week of activities, I ended up at home and in bed by 10:30pm, which is clearly a sign that something is amiss.  After all, any girl knows that being in bed by 10:30pm on a Thursday night in New York City is simply unacceptable, and quitting my day job to be able to stay out all night long would certainly help my cause.

My “knackeredness”, however, cannot be wholly blamed on my job.  Ever since I returned from Belize on Sunday it’s been back-to-back soirees beginning with the Met Museum on Monday night (see May 3 entry), the Grand Classics movie event on Tuesday night (hosted by HOLLYWOULD fave Famke Jensen), a Lucy Sykes Baby press breakfast on Weds morning (new collection = divine), our HOLLYWOULD CFDA party on Weds night (too much tequila), and the Whitney Museum party last night (as mentioned above).  Of course, it doesn’t stop yet as tonight I am headed to see my friend’s amazing band “Lou-is” play, Sat night I have an art opening, Mon night I have the New York Pops Gala, Tues night I have our party in Miami (if you live in Miami, you’re invited – see details below), Weds I have the CFDA luncheon hosted by Swarovski, and then head back to Italy for more non-stop action, just with a Eurotrash twist.  And, speaking of parties, we are busy sorting through our 237 photos from our party Weds night and will post them by this weekend.

In the meantime, please spread the word to all of your Miami friends:

  • Ocean Drive Magazine, Miramax Books and Ilona Oppenheim
  • Invite you to sip cocktails and shop the new couture collection from
  • HOLLYWOULD
  • and to meet
  • Bergdorf Blondes author Plum Sykes
  • TUESDAY, MAY 10TH  6-8 PM
  • INTERMIX at the Bal Harbour Shops
  • 9700 Collins Avenue, 2nd Floor
  • Bal Harbour, Florida

Big shout out to everyone who attended our party last night.  Thank you all for coming!  We are all recovering from way too many tequila shots and Coronas, but will hopefully post party pics by the end of the day.  In the meantime, here are more pics from my biz partner Leslie's beautiful wedding in Belize!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!

And, don't forget tonight's party chez HOLLYWOULD (see below for details)!

May 3rd 2005
New York City

It just doesn’t stop.  No sooner had I returned from my biz partner Leslie’s gorgeous wedding in Belize (more on this later, including pics) than I was off to another party last night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  The raison d'être for this black-tie soiree was the annual Costume Institute Gala, this year sponsored by Chanel and hosted by Nicole Kidman.  Every year the gala is packed with celebs, and this year was no different.  In attendance, along with every socialite New York has to offer, was Andre 3000, Jessica Simpson, Anna Wintour, Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, Donald Trump, Donatella Versace, Elijah Wood, Elle McPherson, Ivana & Ivanka Trump, Jessica Simpson, Hayden Christensen, Jimmy Fallon, Johnny Knoxville, Karl Lagerfeld, Miuccia Prada, Tom Ford, Usher, etc, etc, etc.  Needless to say, it was clearly the fashion event of the year.

Unfortunately I didn’t bring my camera or take any photos, because at events like those people tend to think you’re a stalker if you do.  Of course, I am a stalker and totally wanted to talk tell Jessica Simpson to steer clear of Johnny Knoxville and stick with Nick, get Andre 3000’s autograph, caress Karl Lagerfeld’s pony tail, and touch Usher’s diamond ears, but I refrained for fear of being tossed out on the street and never invited back.  Finger’s crossed, they’ll keep me on the list for next year.

Tonight I have glamorous plans to spend the evening cutting limes in front of the TV for tomorrow’s big Tequila & Corona event chez HOLLYWOULD.  We’ll be celebrating our nomination for the CFDA Swarovski Accessory Award, and you're all invited:

  • HOLLYWOULD CFDA Nomination Fiesta
  • Weds, May 4th 6-8pm
  • HW Store - 198 Elizabeth Street (between Prince & Spring)

See you at the party!
